| Armed
Services and Veterans Affairs-establishes a working
relationship with those agencies in national, state and
local governments having the responsibility in the affairs
of veterans and members of the various armed services;
ensures that the programs to which they are responsible
are administered fairly and justly to members of the minority
community; and studies conditions pertaining to veterans
and members of the military service and their dependents
and/or survivors in the community.
Communications-seeks to promote media content
consistent with fundamental NAACP goals which include
the elimination of racial isolation and fear and the
furtherance of multi-racial and cultural understanding.
Community Coordination-enlists the support of
other community organizations on issues affecting the
interests of African-Americans and other minorities.
Economic
Development-implements branch efforts and supports
national programs to preserve and expand economic empowerment
among African-Americans and other minorities by researching
and establishing relationships with private and public
entities, implements local efforts to promote the growth
of business ownership, encourages business development
and home ownership, and supports the work of the National
Office in monitoring the progress and activity of private
and public entities designated by national programs.
Education-seeks to eliminate segregation and
other discriminatory practices in public education,
investigates the public school system and school zoning,
seeks to stimulate school attendance, and studies local
educational conditions affecting minority groups.
Finance-studies the financial needs of the branch and
develops an annual budget adequate to support the programs
of the branch.
Freedom
Fund-plans and conducts fund-raising activities,
entertainment and other projects for local and national
purposes within the scope of the Association's program.
Health-works to promote, protect and maintain the health
of African-Americans; assesses the health needs of the
community, advocates for equal access to health education,
healthcare, treatment and research for all Americans,
sponsors health-related activities such as health forums,
fairs and workshops highlighting issues of importance
to people of color, and supports health initiatives
of the Association.
Holiday Seals-conducts a sale of seals each
holiday for the purpose of raising funds for the Freedom
Fund.
Housing-studies housing conditions in the local
community, receives and seeks to address complaints
of discrimination, opposes all restrictive practices
whether public or private and disseminates information
and renders assistance which may eliminate discrimination
in housing.
Information Technology-studies the information
technology needs of the branch, develops all methods
of electronic communication, and ensures that the branch
is able to communicate effectively with the membership
and community on relative issues.
Labor and Industry-seeks ways to improve the
economic status of minority groups by working to eliminate
discriminatory employment practices in industry and
government, wage differentials based on race, unequal
opportunities for training, promotion and unfair dismissals;
encourages greater participation in trade union movement;
works to end discriminatory practices in labor unions;
and secures the enactment of state and federal fair
employment practices legislation.
Legal Redress-investigates all cases reported
to it and supervises all litigation in which the branch
is interested.
Life Membership-obtains life memberships and
sponsors a continuing program towards this end.
Membership-works to maintain and increase the
membership of the Association.
Political Action-seeks to increase registration
and voting; works for the enactment of municipal, state
and federal legislation designed to improve the educational,
political and economic status of minority groups.
Personnel-ensures that the branch is properly
staffed to meet its service and advocacy goals and objectives
and recommends policies and procedures for the day-to-day
operations of the branch.
Press and Publicity-secures publicity for the
work of the branch and the Association in the local
press and on radio, television and other media.
Religious Affairs-promotes an educational program
designed to give moral and ethical interpretation to
the civil rights struggle and enlist the support of
organized religious groups for membership, fundraising,
and the struggle for equality and full civil rights.
Title VI-collects information and documentation
from local governmental agencies relative to the implementation
of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act; ensures that local
governmental agencies are in compliance with Title VI
mandates; ensures that no person, based on race, color,
or national origin, is excluded from participation in,
denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination
under any program or activity receiving Federal financial
assistance; and educates the public on the aspects of
Title VI and how it impacts the community.
Youth Work-develops and coordinates the programs
of the senior and youth groups.
Women in the NAACP (WIN)-addresses within the
framework of the NAACP civil rights issues affecting
women and children and carries out other civil and cultural
activities to enhance membership and provide financial
support to the branch.
